The first dog in My House
The first dog in My House
Do not get me wrong, I love dogs. There was always a dog in the house When I was growing. There was a cat, but when he arrived, the mother does not think the cat would be safe around a baby and thus gave the cat to one of my baby. I always found it strange that she never talked about Fluffy. Do you really Fluffy? Some thing could be granted?
Our house in Connecticut was closed during the Second World War when I was 5 years and went to live New York. Dad's job in the Army during the First World War meant that I had introduced the service in Newark, New Jersey, every day but the mother refused to live in New Jersey. She said there were no "suitable" to live in Newark, social life is nil and cons to buy anything would be too. So we moved into an apartment at the Hotel Barclay and Dad commuted from Manhattan to Newark. It is very different from living in a big house with a big garden, but I loved the apartment. That meant he could be with people without much effort and you made me feel warmer inside, basically myself.
I decided to make friends with Sandy, the Middle-old cocker spaniel had not really taken me at all. I do not understand why Sandy had not been given too much away, like a cat. When I asked my mother, she looked at me weird. "Well, Fluffy had claws that could really hurt. In addition, cats love to lick all sorts of things and I do not want Fluffy to lick a dirty language. "
A few nights later, Mom and Dad went to a party and Catherine, the nurse gave my brother had his dinner. I was in the room when they looked at Sandy, who was brown and all kinds of melted into the carpet. I thought it would have been much more interesting to him than the other bits of color in it. Sometimes, when I took a walk, I saw dogs and cats who were dressed in fancy collars and sometimes, sweaters and jackets. But Sandy never had any special clothing. I thought unfair. I thought I would at least one combination. I also felt a little sorry for him because Dad said: "It's getting old" in a sad voice. I guess that "aging" was not a good thing.
It was about a foot off his plate and looked as if he could not decide to eat or not. So I decided it would be a good time to try to make friends with him. It never seemed like he tried to pet him. Maybe he was jealous of me because I drew much attention when I was adopted and that it was the largest attraction.
I thought the way to begin is to ask him some questions. And the first thing to talk about was his dinner.
It was sitting and watching. Then I looked and I tried to ask him if he wanted his company dinner or not. I started push the container to your nose and then pulled back trying to tell me if I wanted to eat or not. Of course, you understand that I try to be nice it. And I wanted to be his friend.
After about five of my "issues" Sandy gave me his answer. He rushed towards me and grabbed his left hand in his mouth and bit hard, making my hands bleed. I decided that I would never be my friend, I took my hand.
Now I had another problem. As I went around the room, crying softly and sucking the blood of the painful sting in my hand, I knew I could not let Catherine know what had happened. It was absolutely not my friend. She had always clearly ignoring me and chattering incessantly to my brother, Ted. I had to keep this type of injury to the eyes, or would be a big problem with her and the mother.
I saw One of my father's handkerchiefs that had been left on a small table and wrapped it tightly around my hand. So I went to my room parents, and jumped on the bed trying not to think about the pain in my hand. Being there made me so far from Catalina possible because Ted was giving a dinner in our room across the house. After a while, I returned to the room, which is one of my books, is mounted on the couch and spread books on my knees. I put my hand hurt in the book to maintain balance (and hide the handkerchief), then turned the pages with your other hand.
It was the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I was disappointed when the Bears have been driven from their beds by Loop Golden. But in my life, bear my life, my Sandy was out of his bedroom, living room. In real life, I thought, people are supposed to be in control of things, especially dogs. But it certainly was not in control of Sandy. Everything seemed to be reversed.
But now, the most important thing was to stay out of sight of Catherine. I managed to do so until Mom and Dad came home. As it was too Later, Ted, Catherine and said hello to mom and dad in the room. I kept my left hand behind my back.
Catherine told the mother, "Both were as good as gold. "
Mom looked at me. "What happens with the hand, Patty?
"Nothing."
The mother turned to Catherine. "What happened?
Catherine looks at the mother. "Well, Mrs. Marvin, I know that something has past. "
Mother forward, took my hand in my back and saw the bloody napkin.
His eyes drilled into me. "What happened?"
"Sandy bit me."
"Catherine, gather attention to the wound and then come talk to me. Alone. "
Catherine turned white as a sheet. She washed my hands and put a bandage on the place are two small scars thereafter. Stomping out of the bath, went to talk to the mother, without giving me a look or a word.
I entered the room.
Papa was immediately swept into his arms. "Now, tell me what it is all about. "
I said, between sobs, that I wanted to make friends with Sandy and Ted liked Catherine, not me and I had nobody to talk to and I do not want to be alone and he had Sandy as a friend, just do not feel that most of the time.
He has cradled in his arms and said I was sorry I felt alone. He promised to spend more time with and I assure you of his mother would not be angry against me for what happened. His eyes were misty, but their embrace made me feel much better. I jumped on his lap and asked him if he went to the radio so that I can listen to music. Nothing could be further increased.
And to make things even best, Catherine does not work for us from the next day.
